New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat with radical Marxist leanings, made three visits to the Biden White House between April 2022 and August 2023, as revealed by the White House visitor logs.
In September 2022, James publicly announced a civil fraud lawsuit against former President Donald Trump and his family, marking a significant development in her ongoing investigation into whether the Trump Organization artificially inflated the values of certain properties.
In her statement in September 2022, James accused Donald Trump of engaging in extensive financial fraud over several years to benefit himself, his family, and the Trump Organization. She emphasized the principle that former presidents should be held to the same legal standards as ordinary citizens, stating, “There aren’t two sets of laws for people in this nation.”
Currently, James is seeking an increased amount of $370 million in damages (originally $250 million) in a fraud case where she alleges there is no identifiable victim. Additionally, she aims to bar Trump and his sons from operating any businesses in New York, claiming that Trump inflated his assets and deceived lenders and insurance companies.
A notable twist in the case emerged when a Deutsche Bank executive testified, potentially strengthening Trump’s defense. The executive, David Williams, stated that clients can secure loans even if their reported net worth exceeds the lender’s calculations, offering a perspective that aligns with Trump’s defense argument. Williams clarified that differences in asset values are often subjective opinions and don’t necessarily disqualify borrowers from obtaining loans.
Bloomberg reported in November that Williams, who had worked on loans provided to Trump by Deutsche Bank before his presidency, testified that the bank occasionally reduces a client’s stated asset value but approves the loan, as was the case with Trump.
Trump’s defense attorney contended that Deutsche Bank independently conducted due diligence and made its own decision to lend money to Trump. The revelation that Letitia James visited the Biden White House multiple times while actively prosecuting Trump, a political adversary of President Biden, adds a layer of scrutiny to the ongoing legal proceedings.
