Police are proud to announce that their defendant is Marquis Ventura, 35, according to a spokesman from the NYPD. Ventura is faced with a charge of second-degree assault, which is a felony.
According to the surveillance footage, there were two men walking in opposite directions on Central Park West near West 70th Street. One of the men turned around and sucker punched the other man for no apparent reason whatsoever. He was wearing a black hoodie and he was able to walk away. He caused the victim to fall to the sidewalk.
The NYPD posted an update on Saturday November 14th that they were able to make an arrest in the case. It was all thanks to a police sergeant from the NYPD Transit Authority. They were able to make the arrest on the 20th precinct at the intersection of Central Park West and 70th Street along the eastern border of that particular precinct.
Although officers had not publicly identified the man who had been assaulted, it quickly came out due to a spokesperson that it was Ghostbusters and Honey I Shrunk the Kids actor Rick Moranis.
“No one should worry. He is fine. However, he does thank everyone for their thoughts and well-wishes,” a representative told the Hollywood Reporter immediately after the assault had occurred.
It should come as no surprise that news of the sucker punch sparked outrage throughout not just Hollywood, but social media and cyberspace as well.
“This made my blood boil,” actor Chris Evans of Captain America fame wrote at the time. “Find this person. You just don’t touch Rick Moranis.”
It wasn’t clear whether Marquis Ventura had an attorney at press time.
