It’s a sad reality that acts of violence have become all too common in today’s world. Reports of people hurting others for seemingly no reason are constantly making headlines. So, when an incident occurred at a Walmart in Windsor, Connecticut, it served as yet another reminder of the evil that some people are capable of. Hopefully, Walmart is taking all necessary measures to prevent something like this from happening again.

Cheryl Johnson and her husband Mel were shopping at Walmart late one night, never imagining that they would find anything out of the ordinary. Walmart has always been a reliable and affordable shopping destination for the couple, but that all changed when Mel pulled a shopping cart out of the stack in the entryway.
Mel was pulling the cart backward when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his hand. He quickly removed his hands from the handle and found a razor blade sticking out from under the handle. In shock, he and Cheryl immediately notified the manager and called the police. They didn’t want anyone else to get hurt.
As the police arrived, the manager rallied his employees to check every cart in the store for any other razor blades. Luckily, no other blades were found. The police have two theories about what might have happened. The first is that it could have been a cruel prank by someone with malicious intent. The second theory is that the razors may have been placed there by shoplifters to cut security tags and avoid detection by security cameras.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened. In 2015, a woman in Dawson, North Dakota had a similar experience. It’s disheartening that such thoughtless and careless acts keep happening and need to be stopped before someone gets seriously hurt.
Cheryl and Mel are grateful that the razor blade didn’t cause more harm. Had a child grabbed the cart, the outcome could have been much worse.
It’s important to always check shopping carts before using them, especially considering the possibility of the blade becoming rusty if left out in the rain. While it’s not ideal to live in a state of constant caution, it’s certainly better than risking injury while grocery shopping.
