Amid Ousting Threats, McCarthy Desperately Clings to Trump: He Will ‘Win’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has broken his long-standing silence on endorsing former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination, stating that Trump will be the Republican nominee and the next president.

McCarthy’s semi-endorsement stance comes a day after he endorsed a Biden-led stopgap deal and months of staying silent on the GOP primary in what he described as a bid not to create a civil war within the party.

During an interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS News’s Face the Nation, McCarthy finally voiced his support for Trump after being pressed for the answer. “I think President Trump is going to be our nominee and President Trump is going to win because President Trump’s policies made America stronger,” the GOP leader said. “We didn’t have inflation. We had a secure border.”

When questioned a second time by Brennan about whether he was endorsing Trump, McCarthy responded by highlighting the successes of the Trump administration

“We didn’t have $100 barrel oil,” McCarthy said. “What I totally find is the president is going to be our nominee, the president is going to win re-election, President Trump, for the basis we want to make America stronger.”

McCarthy also took a swipe at embattled President Joe Biden, noting, “This president has been in elected office for 50 years. Do you know he has spent more dinners with Hunter Biden’s business associates than he has visiting the border. Don’t you think that’s important though? One time. In 50 years.”

McCarthy’s backing of Trump comes amid growing political concerns within the Democratic Party regarding the influx of illegal immigration, particularly ahead of the 2024 presidential election. In New York City, for example, Democrats are telling illegal aliens to go somewhere else.

The House speaker emphasized that House Republicans would continue to pass legislation aligned with the wishes of the American people, despite potential roadblocks in the Senate and the White House.

“The house is its own body. The senate is its own body,” McCarthy said. “We’re not going to surrender to the senate. We pass what the American people want and don’t take my word for it. You’re going to have the governor of New York on it who told people to go somewhere else. The New York City mayor literally says it’s destroying a city.”

Furthermore, McCarthy noted, “Do you know the governor of Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency? This is one of the number one crises as far as the border one sees. This is killing Americans every single day.”
