After 1 National Park Says ‘No’ to American Flag – GOP Senator Fires Off a Patriotic Order

This Memorial Day Americans gathered across the country to enjoy food, fellowship, and remembrance of all those who sacrificed their lives for freedoms all our citizens enjoy. This is a day for everyone to express their patriotism and outwardly support the hundreds of thousands who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

There should be no questioning the support of Americans as they fly Old Glory with pride during this momentous celebration of our freedoms. Flying the flag is one of the simplest ways to support service members, yet one of the most profound statements of patriotism among the people.

The problem these days is that there are too many anti-patriotism bureaucrats running the federal government. These leftists use every opportunity to stifle patriotism and exert abusive power against everyday Americans celebrating our nation’s heritage and pride.

From Fox News:
Officials at Alaska’s famed Denali National Park are taking heat after allegedly telling construction crews at the park not to fly the American flag.

Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, penned a letter to National Park Service Director Charles Sams demanding an explanation for the alleged actions of officials at Denali National Park, noting that the alleged demand for the bridge construction crew to remove the flag was made on the “eve of Memorial Day weekend.”

“This is an outrage – particularly in the lead-up to our most solemn national holiday, Memorial Day, a time when Americans come together to honor those that gave their lives in service to our nation, while wearing our country’s flag,” Sullivan wrote. “The American flag, especially on Memorial Day weekend, should be celebrated, not censored by federal government employees.”

Fox News has not been able to independently verify the claim that appeared to come from a report by the Alaska Watchman, a local conservative news outlet that cited an anonymous construction worker at the park. A National Parks Service official disputed the account.

Sullivan referred to reports that that one of the construction vehicles involved in the project had a 3-by-5-foot American flag affixed to it. For “reasons that remain unclear, someone at the National Park Service (NPS) caused the construction crew to remove the American flag,” he stated.

Sullivan stated there are no regulations prohibiting the flying of American flags on public land and that national parks are for the “enjoyment of American citizens.” He demanded that Sams investigate what happened and then “ensure an incident like this does not happen again in American national parks.”

The senator’s demands were met with a strong objection to the claims of a park service employee demanding that a flag be removed. An NPS spokesperson said the claims are false and that the NPS has no authority over contractors. The spokesperson said the U.S. flag is flown throughout the park.

Sullivan’s office said the senator stands behind his letter to the NPS director.

A protest was sparked by the incident when Alaska residents organized a “patriotic convoy with flags” from Fairbanks to Denali National Park on Sunday. The protest was organized on social media and had 23 confirmed participants and another 100 interested as of Sunday morning.

While the protest may not gain much ground in the sparse population of Alaskans in the area, the federal government should have in place details that require support for the U.S. flag as necessary requirements of all job descriptions.

Key Takeaways:

  • An Alaska senator blasted federal parks officials for an apparent barring of flying the U.S. flag.
  • Dan Sullivan demanded an investigation and assurances that this won’t happen again.
  • Sullivan said the incident was an “outrage” especially leading into Memorial Day weekend.
